Our view on computer games:
The gamer who experiences only positive effects from playing may keep on playing. This is referred to as Green Zone.
+It’s fun and exciting.
+The gamer improves his or her language skills.
+Improved multi-tasking skills and stress management.
+Improved strategic skills.
+Exposure to new countries and different cultures.
+Improved computers skills.
+Improved ability to respond and react.
When negative effects become evident at home, in school, or at work, but the positive effects remain, the gamer runs the risk of becoming addicted. This is referred to as Yellow Zone.
In the Red Zone the negative effects have become predominant and the gamer suffers from an addiction.
-Abstinence or withdrawal symptoms. The gamer becomes restless, irritable, cranky or depressed when not playing.
-Decreased performance in school or at work. The gamer skips school, neglects homework, receives worse grades or loses his or her job.
-Serious conflicts with family and friends about duties and responsibility.
-Obsession and preoccupation about computer games. Even when not playing, the gamer thinks and talks about the game.
-Denial. The gamer lies about the computer game use in order to allay the fears of those close to him or her.
-Disruption of the circadian rhythm. The gamer neglects to sleep.
-Lack of interest in leisure-time activates and friends. The gamer neglects personal relationships.
-Decreased health and condition.
-Inability to control the computer game use.
-Relapse into old habits when trying to decrease the use.
